Actions Following Indeterminate Titer Results
Q: I have a question about hep b immunity. The titer said indeterminate and the HB antibody quantitative was 5.5 mIU/mL. What would you suggest?
A: Although your question did not state it, I assume that this is the titer result from testing 1-2 months after the administration of the 3rd dose of the HBV vaccine. Since long-term immunity has been shown only for persons attaining an adequate anti-HBs result of at least 10 mIU/mL after a 3-dose vaccination series, in this situation the entire 3-dose vaccine series should be readministered. Follow up with another titer 1-2 months after completion of the second full vaccination series.
