By Wayne

Surfing
the World Wide Web makes Hawaii and southern California look tame. It's a tsunami of data!
If
you aren’t yet connected, you need to be. There is a wealth
of information available on the web that can help you make
sales and get a vast array of information that will be useful
to you or your customers.
What
do you do with this information once you have it? Many times
when the customer asks a question, you can direct them to
the site to get the answer. Better yet, just print them off
an answer. Here’s a small fraction of what’s available on
the World Wide Web.
MSDS
The
best site for MSDS we have found is www.msdssearch.com.
Pharmaceuticals
Everything
you ever wanted to know about Rx is available at www.rxlist.com,
where top-selling prescriptions are listed as well as complete
and detailed information on all of the drugs.
Safety/OSHA
Information
OSHA
has a good web site at www.osha.gov.
Check
out the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health
(NIOSH) at www.cdc.gov/niosh/homepage.html
for information on a wide variety of topics including latex
allergy guidelines.
Go
to www.access.gpo.gov/su_docs/fedreg/a010118c.html
to download the amended Bloodborne Pathogens standard.
Questions
on drawing blood? Try www.phlebotomy.com.
They have a great poster and a lot of information your customers
can use on blood-drawing techniques.
Educational
materials, posters, brochures and stickers relating to proper
handwashing can be found at www.washup.org.
Need
training on hepatitis C? Go to www.cdc.gov/ncidod/diseases/hepatitis.
The
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s website has the
latest recommendations for HIV therapy: www.cdc.gov/hiv/treatment.htm.
CLIA Information
Check
out the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (formerly
Health Care Financing Administration) at www.hcfa.gov.
Reimbursement Information
CPT
codes as well as Local Medical Review Policies (LMRPs) are
important to your customers for understanding under what circumstances
they can get reimbursed.
Manufacturers
Virtually
every manufacturer has a web site that can provide you with
product information, literature, etc.
These
are just a few of the resources available on the World Wide
Web. Surf's up!
