1. Run two levels of control for each test on
each day test is run.
2. If both controls are within the acceptable
range, patient samples may be tested and reported.
3. If one control is out of range, rerun that control.
If the control is now within range, patient samples may now be tested or
reported. Be sure to indicate on the control log sheet that the control was
repeated. If the control is still out of range, go to step 4.
4. Open a new bottle of the same lot number of
control and run it. If the control is within range, patient samples may now be
tested or reported. Again, note on the control log sheet that a new vial of
control was tested. If the control is still outside of the acceptable range, go
to step 5.
5. Troubleshoot the system by recalibrating,
cleaning, etc. Repeat both controls. If the controls are within acceptable
ranges, patient samples may now be tested or reported. Be sure to note on the
control log sheet what was done (eg. recalibration). If either control is outside of the acceptable range, go to step
6.
6. Call the instrument manufacturer. If testing
is to be delayed for more than one hour, store patient samples in the
refrigerator (according to directions in the package insert) OR send samples to
a reference laboratory.
NEVER REPORT
OUT PATIENT TEST RESULTS UNTIL CONTROLS ARE WITHIN ACCEPTABLE RANGE!
